OUR STORY
From “boring” to breathtaking — how an e-scooter ride changed everything.
People say Canberra is boring... But, there is a certain kind of magic hidden in Canberra, though most passers-by never see it.
My parents, like many visitors, once thought the Capital was dull compared to the restless hum of Sydney. But then, I placed an e-scooter in their hands. My father, who had suffered a stroke and moved carefully, and my mother, who had never learned to ride a bicycle and wobbled at the thought of balance, both looked uncertain. Yet within minutes, truly minutes... They were gliding across the lakefront with ease like teens running across an open field.

We chose the Central and Eastern loop at first, a gentle two-hour adventure circling the east side of Lake Burley Griffin. Along the way, we paused at the Captain Cook Memorial Jet, watched sunlight ripple across the water at Commonwealth Park, and marvelled at the elegant chimes of the National Carillon. It felt as though the lake itself had opened a storybook just for us, viewing the sceneries like we are in a painting. The falling leaves, the blue sky, the soft wind brushing your face. And that story only deepened when we tried the Western loop, another two hours through the Black mountain peninsula, past the grand display of trees and saplings in the arboretum and the sweeping vantage near Scrivener Dam. My parents smiled, wide-eyed, the kind of happiness that belongs to youth and rediscovery.
These moments that are so simple, yet so extraordinary, had became a chapter we will never forget. That’s why I created Canberra E-Scooter Tours: to share this experience with you. Let the lake rewrite what you think you know about Canberra. Turn the page, book your ride today, and write a memory worth keeping forever.
