As spring unfolds its vibrant tapestry across Australia’s capital, there’s no better time to explore Canberra than during Floriade, the city’s magnificent celebration of spring. This annual festival draws thousands of visitors to marvel at its stunning floral displays—making it a perfect season to experience the city in full colour.

What is Floriade?

Floriade is Australia’s largest flower festival, held annually at Commonwealth Park. Since its debut in 1988, it has grown into one of the ACT’s most loved traditions, drawing over one million blooms and countless visitors from across the country.

In 2025, Floriade runs from 13 September to 12 October, transforming the lakeside park into a vibrant patchwork of colour and creativity.

Yellow and red tulips bloom under a clear blue sky with scattered clouds. Trees and stage lights are visible in the background.

This Year’s Theme: Science and Nature

The 2025 theme explores the fascinating relationship between science and the natural world. Expect gardens inspired by astronomy, biology, chemistry, and physics, alongside interactive workshops and talks designed to spark curiosity and wonder.

Festival Highlights

  • NightFest (2–5 Oct) – Floriade lights up after dark with glowing gardens, entertainment, and food stalls.

  • Dr Karl Live (4 Oct) – An evening with Australia’s most beloved science communicator.

  • Family Fun – Performances, workshops, and creative activities for kids of all ages.

  • Dogs’ Day Out (12 Oct) – A paw-fect finale for four-legged friends.

  • Great Big Bulb Dig (13 Oct) – Take home a piece of Floriade by purchasing bulbs from the display beds.

Vibrant tulips and daisies bloom by a serene lake under a clear blue sky, creating a colorful and peaceful spring landscape.
